BIO
GARY has performed improv at the Del Close Marathon (UCB), the Boston Improv Festival (Improv Boston), the Providence Improv Festival (Perishable Theater), the NYC Improv Festival (The PIT) and at the Chicago Improv Festival (Playground Theater). He is a founding member of the improv team, The Garys, and can be seen producing and performing in their comedy show, Overtime (NSFW), at The Tank (NYC).
He was cast in a small role opposite Rebecca Brooksher in Muse, a short film starring Michael Stuhlbarg (Boardwalk Empire) about artist Edward Hopper (Nighthawk). The film was directed by Sophie Barthes (Cold Souls) and produced by Caroline Aragon of Film-Land. Other recent film projects include The Lincoln Division, a short film by Companion Pictures, where he played the lead, Sgt. Ryan Curtis, in a sci-fi action thriller and Roomie, an NYU Tisch Graduate short film, where he played the lead, David. Roomie debuted at a screening at Tisch in late March.
He has studied improvisation and storytelling, extensively, at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre since 2008. A graduate of Syracuse University, Gary earned his undergraduate degree from the Whitman School of Management while also studying at the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse Stage. He has studied extensively at Caymichael Patten Studios, in NYC, where he focused primarily on scene study and Meisner technique and continues with on-camera classes at One on One studios where he recently completed the Advanced Industry Workshop intensive.
Gary is a competitive triathlete and marathoner (2:45:45 personal best) and enjoys coaching runners professionally here. He considers his most enriching film experience to be with director Tony Kaye (American History X) on the feature film, Detachment, where he was the stand-in and double for Adrien Brody. He is originally from Rhode Island but, despite what you’re thinking, he probably doesn’t know that ‘friend of yours’ also from RI. He rarely sleeps with a pillow.
